Kuroshitsuji Chapter 127-129 Discussion

The Blue Star

What a hectic three months for the Kuroshitsuji fandom.

In chapter 127, Agni is killed by the assailants who tried to killed Soma, with Ciel and Sebastian finding his body.  It was a fundamental shift in the story, since it was the first time that a long established main character ever died in Kuroshitsuji.  The last time such a shift happened with the cast was when the Undertaker revealed his true colors on the Campania (granted, people knew he was a Shinigami due to the first anime, but that Undertaker and the manga one are starkly different).

Chapter 128 comes out, with the horrific "Who stole the candy from my tummy" message on the wall, and Ciel's horrified expression when asking Sebastian about the pieces of the picture that Agni found in chapter 126.  Ciel can be a cold-hearted child at times, but anything that horrifies him to such an extent is nothing except terrifying.

Which brings us to chapter 129.  Soma is now conscious again and knows who killed Agni, swearing revenge.  Paula, Elizabeth's hand-maid, breaks down in tears after she was rescued from the music hall because of what is going on with Elizabeth.  Violet wakes up, recovered from his blood being drained, and is about to reveal who the real Blue Star.

All building up to this:

It takes a brilliant author to be able to plan this kind of reveal out for over 8 years in advance.  Ever since chapters 31-34, to be precise.  It takes an equally brilliant fan-base to be able to piece together the clues and hints starting from years prior to the reveal.

For the past few years, there have been theories floating about surrounding the "Two Ciels" that sometimes crop up in the story.  To a casual observer, one could think that the "Two Ciels", which have gotten more apparent over the course of years, especially in the Werewolf Arc, was just part of Ciel Phantomhive's imagination.  The idea behind the theory was Ciel actually had a twin brother, one who was killed on the night he made the contract with Sebastian.  I won't get into specifics, so I'll cut straight to the point:

The theories were correct.  Ciel Phantomhive is a twin.  To be more specific, the one above claims himself to be the REAL Ciel Phantomhive.

Do I believe it?  Yes.

I believe it because of what we saw in Sebastian's record.  Sebastian laughs at the fact that Ciel ordered him not to lie, despite the fact that Ciel himself is very much a liar.  I believe the reason being for that now is because "Ciel Phantomhive" is not the real name of the boy we've been following all this time, but the name of his brother.

But now all of this has me thinking about whether or not Tanaka is aware of the truth about Our Ciel.  It may be because my memory is not precise enough to figure out every point in time where Tanaka has interacted with Ciel, but I can't recall a point where Tanaka has actually called our Ciel by his name.  I can only recall him referring to our Ciel as "Young Master".

Either way, the fact this twist played out so well with the fandom shows the kind of writing that separates the greats from the rest.

Kuroshitsuji Beyond The Pages Introduction

Kuroshitsuji - the tale of Ciel Phantomhive, the Queen's Watchdog, and Sebastian Michaelis, the Demon whom he made a contract with to seek vengeance for the death of his family.

I have followed this series for a long time and, much like Boku no Hero Academia, I have decided to create a blog discussing chapters as they come out.

I will be honest, this was spur of the moment.  Because the new chapter has led me to an idea so shocking (admittedly, one I may have heard before but didn't give much thought to) that I just have to talk about it.  Because more exciting than potentialities is those ideas that come so close to the truth.
